I Wish I Was in Santa Cruz

My old friend called me up long distance
Says it’s nice out on the Monterey Bay
The fog has burned off and the sky is clear
And it’s turned out to be an amazing day

I haven’t gone back there in months now
Been too long since I’ve seen that town
It’s no wonder why I’ve felt so funky lately
It’s no wonder why I’ve been so damn down

And no Sertraline or Xanax
Will cure me of these blues
I wish I was in Santa Cruz
I’d go down to that ol’ Casino
Where I know I couldn’t lose
Oh, I wish I was in Santa Cruz
Yes, I wish I was in Santa Cruz

Where the community is so welcoming
Even the professionals are friendly too
Where any week you can get a Good Times
And find something awesome to do

It’s where I love walking down Pacific Avenue
I’d meet up with friends at a coffee shop & chat
I’ll also need to see the UCSC view
And I’ll get myself a local Skater hoodie and hat

And no Sertraline or Xanax
Will cure me of these blues
I wish I was back in Santa Cruz
I’d go down to the Boardwalk
Where we’d walk without our shoes
Oh, I wish I was in Santa Cruz
Yes, I wish I was in Santa Cruz
Oh, I can’t wait to go home to Santa Cruz.

2017

Lyrics Notes: No matter where I go or live, it seems my muse is Santa Cruz, where I was raised until I was 10. But I always went back there every chance I got. While I wrote a lyric early in the year about Downtown, it was very tongue in cheek but this one is for the place that I think I’ll always call home. It’s deep inside me and inspires me with my own creative vision and path. Thanks so much to my parents for raising me there.
