What Will We Do Without Willie?

As I was driving on an empty country road
and had a Venti Starbucks Cafe Mocha at my side
I had my Essential Willie Nelson cd on
Cos I needed to hear some classics during my ride
My Cousin Janet used to play him all the time
but my parents didn’t own any of his cassettes
Instead, they’d play lots of Neil Diamond & John Denver
and against smokin’ weed and nicotine cigarettes

Well I listened to every song in Willie’s collection
Like Pancho & Lefty and the rockin’ Whiskey River
When he said in that song, “I gotta get drunk,”
I thought about the damage he’d do to his liver
And I wondered what would happen if he passed away
With a hand on the wheel, I wrote the title down
Oh, now what would we do without dear Willie?
I don’t think we’d go out and paint the town

Well, per his request he wants to be rolled up
and smoked like a doobie when he dies
But I think we’ll all be so distraught then
It’ll come as a shock and a sad surprise
And I’ll hate to see the look on all the faces
‘specially the tears flowin’ from my Cousin Janet’s eyes
Oh what will we do without dear Willie
I know I won’t be singin’ anythin’ like Blue Skies

I don’t like ponderin’ about anyone’s death
I don’t wanna think about things I can’t control
But I know Willie’s gonna leave just like a cowboy
Whenever our Precious Lord calls home his sweet soul
I can’t help but want to meet him in Hawaii
Before our dear Willie’s not around anymore
So Willie, if you’re listenin’ to this tribute to you
If I come knockin’ please open that damn door

Well per his his request he wants to be rolled up
and smoked like a doobie when he dies
But I think we’ll all be so distraught then
It’ll come as a shock and a sad surprise
I’ll hate to see the look on all the faces
‘specially the tears flowin’ from my Cousin Janet’s eyes
Oh, what will we do without our beloved Willie?
I just know I won’t be singin’ anythin’ like Blue Skies

Oh, what will we do without our beloved Willie?
I just know I won’t be singin’ anythin’ like Blue Skies
