I Turn to Songs

When I’ve gone through a bad breakup
When my heart is burning like hell
When I feel my life’s in a dumpster
When I think I have nothing in my well

I look through my music collection
and I throw something on to relax
It helps me cope, that acoustic folk
Or something smooth like great sax

I turn to songs
I turn to songs
Songs don’t hurt me
Like many people do
I turn to songs late at night
When I’m not feeling right
When I’m beyond a little blue
When I’m crying inside
For love I’ll always need from you
Oh, I turn to songs, those sweet songs
Because they always come through

There are none like those I listened to
When I was just a kid at seventeen
They got me through the tough times
Dealing with people who were mean

I got tired of the Pop Music machine
So I started buying Punk & Blues
I knew the words to those tunes
Felt the singers walked in my shoes

I turned to songs
I turned to songs
Those songs affect me
So many of them do
I play them in my truck
And my life doesn’t suck
My thinking is no longer blue
I’m longer crying inside
I know I can give my love to you
Through my songs, my love songs
Like them, I’ll always come through

For you, I’ll always come through

Beloved, Be Happy and Leave

You’ve packed up some of your things
and you’re no longer happy with me
Can’t say that I blame you,
I won’t ever disrespect you,
But beloved, be happy & leave

When we got hitched way back when
I thought you & I would forever be
supportive, loving & kind
But I’ve now lost my mind
So beloved, be happy & leave

Go do whatcha gotta do for your future
Go do whatcha gotta do, I’ll let you go
I only wish for you heavenly happiness
You deserve what you need, this I know

It was paradise, all those nights
But we’ve lost our spark and can’t see
us together anymore because
Our love ain’t what it once was
Dear beloved, be happy & leave

Go do whatcha gotta do for your future
Go do whatcha gotta do, I’ll let you go
I only wish for you heavenly happiness
You deserve what you need, this I know

Oh, was paradise, all those nights
But we’ve lost our spark and can’t see
us together anymore because
Our love ain’t what it once was
My beloved, be happy & leave

Oh, I can’t stand us fightin’ anymore
Please get goin’ out that screen door
I gotta rush to the bathroom & heave
Please, beloved, be happy & leave

Please, beloved, be happy & leave

She’s Got an iPhone

Verse 1:
She’s got an iPhone
She’s always on that thing
She’s got an iPhone
And a diamond ring
I don’t know who loves her
Who lives inside her brain
I don’t know where she works
Or where she takes the train
But she’s got an iPhone
And she lives here in Maine

Bridge:
She wears granny glasses
Her hair’s always in a bun
She wears granny glasses
She’s constantly on the run
I haven’t seen her husband
Or if she has a girl or a boy
But she’s got an iPhone
And filled with so much joy

Chorus:
She smiles at me every morning
But doesn’t ever say a word
And she’s drivin’ me insane
’cause the whole thing is absurd
I wanna sit by her one time
Maybe day after day after that
But she’s addicted to her iPhone
So we never get to chit-chat

Verse 3:
She’s got an iPhone
I can only afford a Pixel 2
She’s got and iPhone
And looks like an ingenue
I wanna be friends with her
Grab coffee one afternoon
But this train’s the water
And she’s the elusive moon
Cause she’s got an iPhone
And I’m no filthy rich tycoon

Chorus:
She smiles at me every morning
But doesn’t ever say a word
And she’s drivin’ me insane
’cause the whole thing is absurd
I wanna sit by her one time
Maybe day after day after that
But she’s addicted to her iPhone
So we never get to chit-chat

Back to Verse 1:
She’s got an iPhone
She’s always on that thing
She’s got an iPhone
And a diamond ring
I don’t know who loves her
Who lives inside her brain
I don’t know where she works
Or where she takes the train
But she’s got an iPhone
And she lives here in Maine
And she lives here in Maine
And she lives here in Maine

Good God, I Love You

Those eyes, that hair
The way you laugh at me
when I crack a joke
God, I love this
God, I love you

Those lips, that smile
The way you look at me
as you eat an artichoke
God, I love this
God, I love you

We’re so different
Much different
than I thought we’d be
We’re so different
but this ain’t a complaint
I’m so honored & grateful
you’ve carefully chosen me

Those cheeks, that chin
The way you reach for me
as we listen to some folk
God, I love this
God, I love you

We’re so different
Much different
than I hoped we’d be
We’re so different
but I adore you so much
I’m faithfully yours, like
burning sands are to the sea

Those cheeks, that chin
The way you sweetly kiss me
As we enjoy our bathtub soak
God, I love us
God, I love this
Good God, I love you

Good God, I love you

Beach in Seabright

I look at our kids
I look at my wife
I think to myself
What a wonderful life

We have a house
A couple of cars
I feel so grateful
as I stare at the stars

And I know time is moving
faster than I’d like
I know it’s been a while since
I’ve been on my bike
I also know all of this
is what I’d dream about
As I’d head out with my friends
night after night
Searching for the one
with sweetness and light
At bars nearby
the beach in Seabright

I didn’t see her comin’
but I fell hard & fast
I was confident & cool
Prayin’ we would last

And I sure as hell got lucky
We’ve now been together for so long
When I think we’re gonna break up
I discover I’m so, so wrong

And I know time is moving
faster than desired
II know it’ll be a while
before we’re retired
I also know all of this
is what I hoped for as a teen
As I’d go out with my friends
on Saturday nights
Looking for more
than sweetness and light
At those bonfires on
the beach in Seabright

I look at our kids
and who I’ve become
I didn’t end up where
Mom & Dad were from

This journey I’m on
with my loving family
is the best damn thing
That’s happened to me

And I know time is moving
faster than I’d like
It’s been a while since
I’ve ridden that bike
I also know all of this is
all I’d ever need or want
Someday I’ll take them all to
that yacht harbor restaurant
Where I’d admire everyone
with sweetness and light
who grew up like me at
that beach in Seabright

Who grew up like me at
that beach in Seabright

Crushing Crush

There’s a girl I’ve known since I was seventeen
Has an aquatic blue eye and another that’s green
She’s not the prettiest girl I’ve ever seen
but she’s the one I was crushing on back then

I was dating others who were nothing like her
Whether they liked me or not, I wasn’t that sure
What I do know is I was lonely, awkward & immature
and she was the one I was crushing on back then

She was told I was obsessing from a friend of a friend
We hung out for lunch when her heart was on the mend
and I shared with her a poem I had recently penned
before she became the one I was crushing on back then

Last I heard she moved to Jersey with a guy who she met
while they were still in college, now he’s a Navy Vet
And I wish I could erase that memory I just can’t forget
of the moment I found out she only dated older men
How I was crushed by the one I was crushing on back then
How I was crushed by the one I was crushing on back then
